KUALA LUMPUR: Kelantan and Terengganu recorded a significant surge in flood victims this afternoon compared to figures reported earlier on Thursday (Nov 28).
Kedah and Perlis also saw an increase in evacuees, while the situation in Perak and Johor remained unchanged.
In Kelantan, the Social Welfare Department’s Info Bencana portal reported that the number of victims rose to 42,868, with 190 relief centres (PPS) opened in 10 districts, up from 29,023 victims in 151 PPS on Thursday morning.
Pasir Mas recorded the highest number of victims at 15,148 people in 45 PPS, followed by Tumpat (6,175 victims, 14 PPS), Pasir Puteh (4,035 victims, 21 PPS), Kuala Krai (4,014 victims, 30 PPS), Kota Bharu (3,983 victims, 24 PPS) and Tanah Merah (3,685 victims, 25 PPS).
Floods also affected Machang, with 2,915 victims in 18 PPS, Bachok (2,157 victims, seven PPS), Jeli (724 victims, five PPS) and Gua Musang (32 victims, one PPS).
In Terengganu, the number of victims at 4pm stood at 14,111, up from 8,215 on Thursday morning, with Besut remained the most affected with 5,076 evacuees at 69 PPS.
Setiu recorded 3,514 victims at 41 PPS, Hulu Terengganu (3,351 victims, 46 PPS), Kemaman (1,407 victims, 18 PPS), Dungun (446 victims, eight PPS), Marang (296 victims, seven PPS) and Kuala Nerus (21 victims, one PPS).
The state Public Works Department informed that 42 roads have been closed to all vehicles, while the river water levels at 17 stations have exceeded danger levels, including Sungai Nerus at Kampung Langkap, Setiu; Sungai Telemong at Kuala Ping, Hulu Terengganu; Sungai Besut at Kampung La, Besut; Sungai Dungun at Kuala Jengai, Dungun; and Sungai Tebak at Jambatan Tebak, Kemaman.
Meanwhile, in Kedah, state Civil Defence Force deputy director Major (PA) Muhammad Suhaimi Mohd Zain said the number of evacuees increased to 1,849 people from 595 families this afternoon, compared to 569 people from 197 families in the morning.
A total of 17 PPS are currently operating in the state, namely nine in Kubang Pasu with 1,010 victims, Padang Terap (749 victims, five PPS); Sik (54 victims, two PPS) and Pokok Sena (36 victims, one PPS).
In Perlis, the state APM reported that the number of victims rose to 383 compared to 243 this morning, who are housed in four PPS, namely at SK Arau (128 victims), SK Guar Nangka Arau (73), SK Titi Tinggi Padang Besar (131) and Dewan Warisan, Kangar (51).
Meanwhile, the flood situation in PERAK and JOHOR remained unchanged, with 20 people still at the PPS at SK Haji Parit Aman, Kerian and 28 people at Balai Raya Batu Badak, Segamat. - Bernama
