KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed his condolences to the family of business tycoon Ananda Krishnan, who passed away on Thursday (Nov 28).
Anwar said the late Ananda’s contributions to the corporate world and philanthropy to society will surely be remembered.
"Received the news of the passing of the late Ananda Krishnan today. I sent my condolences to the family of the deceased and may they be strong in facing this trying time," he said in a Facebook post on Thursday.
The news of Ananda's death, 86, was confirmed by his investment holding company, Usaha Tegas Sdn Bhd, in a statement.
Ananda, whose full name is Tatparanandam Ananda Krishnan or T. Ananda Krishnan, was one of Malaysia's leading business figures and is listed as one of the richest individuals in the country.
A graduate of Harvard Business School, Ananda started Usaha Tegas and later founded Maxis Communications and Measat Broadcast Network Systems.
His leadership propelled Maxis to become one of the leading telecommunications providers in Malaysia. - Bernama
