Contraband worth RM20mil seized in KK


KOTA KINABALU: The General Operations Force (GOF) has seized contraband items worth more than RM20mil here and in the neighbouring Penampang district.

The raids held from Nov 19 to 26 also saw 29 men arrested.

Sabah GOF Brigade Commander Senior Asst Comm Datuk Abdul Rani Alias said the first raid was at the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park in Sepanggar.

His men seized 56,616 cans of alcoholic drinks, a trailer and lorry as well as 11 mobile phones worth over RM2mil, including the unpaid taxes.

In the second raid at Jalan NC Mogunting in Penampang and Kampung Ganang in Kepayan, they seized more than five million sticks of cigarettes worth RM9.6mil.

In the third raid in Penampang, thousands of boxes of frozen food were seized.
