Eight detained for deviant teachings

JASIN: A government pensioner was among eight detained in raids here for allegedly following the deviant “Millah Ibrahim” teachings.

The suspects nabbed in the early-morning joint operation yesterday were three married couples and two men.

Melaka education, higher education, and religious affairs committee chairman Datuk Rahmad Mariman said those held were aged between 28 and 72.

“These individuals were detained during raids at four houses here that were conducted by JAIM (Melaka Islamic Religious Department) and the police.

“A total of 70 officers were involved in the raids conducted at 4am,” he said here yesterday.

Rahmad said the arrests were made following public complaints regarding the spreading and practice of Millah Ibrahim’s teachings, which have been declared deviant and are contrary to the teachings of Islam in the state.

“Among the suspects were private employees, self-employed individuals and housewives,” he added.

Rahmad said numerous items related to the teachings of the group were also seized in the raids, including books such as Ruhul Qudus Existence, Essence of the Quran, Universal Truth Way and Spiritual Contemplation.

Rahmad said the suspects are being investigated for allegedly committing offences under Section 63 of the Syariah Offences Enactment (State of Melaka) 1991, namely by insulting Islam through denying or violating the published fatwa.
