PETALING JAYA: The federal Centralised Disaster Operations Control Centre (PKOB) has been activated following severe flooding that has affected eight states nationwide.
The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) stated that the centre will coordinate and monitor rescue operations and manage flood victims.
"Coordination includes the necessary assets and logistics alongside mobilising rescue teams across the affected states," Nadma said in a statement on Friday (Nov 29).

The Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (Smart) has also been mobilised to assist search and rescue operations in affected states, specifically Kelantan.
With the number of flood victims in Kelantan rising, Nadma reported that the state's PKOB has requested additional collapsible tents.
"The Welfare Department has also requested an additional 50,000 food retorts for distribution at temporary relief centres," Nadma added.

Nadma stated that its National Disaster Control Centre will operate round the clock to monitor and prepare natural disaster reports for the public.
The agency advises the public to take precautions amidst the current weather and to adhere to evacuation notices if ordered to do so.
As of 6am Friday, 80,589 victims have been displaced due to floods nationwide, and 467 temporary relief centres have been activated.
Four deaths have been recorded across Kelantan, Terengganu, and Sarawak so far.
