Floods: Number of evacuees in Johor climbs to 184


JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims in Johor has risen to 184 people from 51 families at 4pm on Friday (Nov 29), up from 33 people (nine families) at 2pm.

The state disaster management committee said floods have now affected Segamat, with two additional temporary relief centres opened to accommodate victims.

“The majority are from Kampung Parit Bengkok in Gambir, Tangkak, where 160 people from 45 families have been relocated to the SK Bukit Rahmat centre.

“Other affected residents are from Kampung Paya Lebar and Kampung Bukit Tunggal in Jementah, Segamat.

“These evacuees are being housed at Balairaya Kampung Paya Lebar and Balairaya Bukit Tunggal,” it said in a statement.

The committee also said two rivers have exceeded the danger level: Sungai Muar at Kampung Awat has risen to 20.21m, from its normal level of 18m; while Sungai Tangkak at Kampung Seri Makmur has risen to 4.42m from 2m.
