KTMB cancels 12 East Coast train routes due to floods


PETALING JAYA: Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) has cancelled 12 East Coast train routes due to the current flood situation in the East Coast states.

In a statement, KTMB said the affected routes include JB Sentral-Tumpat, Tumpat-JB Sentral, Gemas-Kuala Lipis, Kuala Lipis-Gemas, Tumpat-Kuala Lipis, and Kuala Lipis-Tumpat (starting at Gua Musang).

Other routes cancelled are Gua Musang-Tumpat (ending at Dabong), Tumpat-Gua Musang, Tumpat-Dabong, Tumpat-Gua Musang, and Kuala Lipis-Tumpat (ending at Gua Musang).

Continues rainfall in the country has led to a sharp increase of flood victims in several states, with Kelantan recording the highest number, as 59,232 individuals have been relocated to 221 flood relief centres as of Friday (Nov 29) morning, compared to 50,947 individuals in 207 relief centres on Thursday (Nov 28) night.

The Social Welfare Department's Disaster Info Portal reported that Pasir Mas still has the highest number of evacuees, with 22,156 people in 53 relief centres, followed by Tumpat (8,434 evacuees, 17 relief centres), Kota Bharu (5,944 evacuees, 31 relief centres), Kuala Krai (5,253 evacuees, 39 relief centres), Tanah Merah (4,366 evacuees, 26 relief centres), and Bachok (2,844 evacuees, 8 relief centres).
