Motorcyclist almost killed, caught in strong tides due to floods in Melaka


PETALING JAYA: A motorcyclist was almost killed after he was caught in a strong current due to floods in Jalan Batu Alang, Kampung Sungai Siput, Lubok Cina in Masjid Tanah, Melaka.

In the Friday (Nov 29) incident at 7.30am, the 34-year-old man was forced to hold on to a tree branch for an hour before the Fire and Rescue services saved him.

The Melaka Fire and Rescue Services received a call around 7.32am and rushed to the scene.

A department spokesman said on reaching the location, a man on a motorcycle was seen being caught in the flood waters measuring around 1.2m, according to Astro Awani on Friday (Nov 29).

"The victim managed to save himself by holding on to a tree branch before the Fire and Rescue team began their operation.

He was later saved and was taken to the roadside during the operation which lasted 40 minutes.

"People are advised not to take a risk by crossing roads which have strong currents due to the floods to prevent such incidents," added the spokesman.

A video of the man went viral after he was seen riding near a lorry, where he suddenly fell, caught in the current.
