A DOG in Thailand broke the hearts of Internet users for refusing to leave her owner’s side even after she had fallen into a pond and drowned, Sin Chew Daily reported.
Local police received a report on Nov 21 that a body was found in a pond at an orchard in eastern Thailand’s Chanthaburi province.
The dog, a four-year-old golden retriever named Tofu, was spotted next to the pond.
When authorities fished the 81-year-old woman’s body out of the water, Tofu could be heard howling and whimpering as if she knew her owner had died.
According to family members, the elderly woman had raised Tofu since she was a puppy.
Tofu was known to follow the woman around when she was performing chores in the orchard.
On the day of the drowning, the woman was believed to have been cutting grass when she tripped and fell into the pond.
Family members were alarmed when she did not return home by noon and gathered a search party to look for her.
The village head noticed Tofu sitting by the pond. He then pumped water out of the pond and that was when he discovered the body.
