Taxi crash leads to fatal gas explosion

JASIN: Three senior citizens were burnt to death when a natural gas vehicle (NGV) cylinder exploded after a taxi they were travelling in skidded and hit a bridge wall at Jalan Jasin Merlimau, near Kampung Lanchang here.

The couple has been identified as Husali Umar, 84, and Mastura Said, 60, from Felcra Lembah Kesang in Merlimau.

The taxi driver has been identified as S. Subbramaniam, 71, from Taman Muhibbah.

Jasin OCPD Deputy Supt Ahmad Jamil Radzi said Subbramaniam was believed to have lost control of his vehicle before skidding and hitting the bridge wall.

The impact of the collision caused the NGV cylinder to explode, he added.

All three victims died on the spot, DSP Ahmad Jamil said.
