Be ready for snap polls, Azmin tells delegates at Bersatu AGM


SHAH ALAM: With his new position as the Bersatu and Perikatan Nasional secretary-general, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali called on delegates at the party’s annual general meeting to prepare for the possibility of snap polls.

Azmin said it is not impossible for Parliament to be dissolved before its term ends in 2027.

“I believe with the pressure from the people today, Putrajaya will have no choice but to dissolve Parliament, and we are ready to face the general election,” he said.

Azmin said this in his speech at the annual general meeting held at the Ideal Convention Centre here on Saturday (Nov 30). The meeting will continue until Sunday.

As part of its preparation to face future elections, the former Selangor MB pledged that the new Bersatu lineup will ensure the party’s grassroots are further strengthened.

“I vow that the new administration will go to the ground and help the grassroots at the branch and divisional levels so that the party can be strengthened through more memberships and more branches.

“This is so that we can be prepared to face either state elections or the general election. The general election won’t necessarily be held three years from now,” he added.

Earlier in his speech, Azmin said his appointment as secretary-general for both the party and coalition is effective immediately, as per the instruction of Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
