A TEACHER in flooded Wakaf Baru, Kelantan, was determined to educate her students, come hell or high water.
Despite standing in waist-high floodwater, Cai Jin Li (pic) continued to teach her class of SJKC Kota Baru via the Internet from her home in Kampung Padang Rokma, Sin Chew Daily reported.
Since she still had electricity at home, she was able to deliver her lesson uninterrupted despite the floods, said Cai.
A photo of her giving the lesson in her flooded home was circulated online and sparked concern for her safety.
Cai thanked everyone for their concern and assured the public that she will take care of her safety during the floods.
> The daily also reported that a teacher in China’s Hunan province was sentenced to five years’ jail for maiming a pupil with a set square (triangle-shaped ruler).
As he tried to control a noisy classroom on Sept 6 last year, Song Yuming, a Year Four teacher, threw a set square at a pupil, which hit her forehead and cracked her skull.
The Changsha Yuelu People’s Court heard that the pupil, whose surname is Liu, suffered from what is known in China as a “ninth-degree disability” as a result of the injury.
According to the judge, the teacher should be severely punished as he had deliberately harmed a student placed under his care.
He jailed Song for five years and banned him from working with minors in future.
When interviewed, the pupil’s mother Guo Yang said they have transferred Liu to a different school to make her forget about the incident.
It was earlier reported that the school had paid an undisclosed sum to the victim’s family as compensation for the incident.
