Cries for help heard in landslide that killed two in Hulu Terengganu

PETALING JAYA: Cries were heard from the landslide in Ajil, near Hulu Terengganu, but there wasn't anything that witnesses could do.

Danial Arabi, 36, who was among the first witnesses to the incident in Kampung Bukit Apit said there were loud noises and cries for help but little could be done during the incident at about 5pm on Friday (Nov 29).

"I was resting and was woken up by a bang during the incident.

"I rushed out to see what was happening and saw a landslide that had crushed three houses, including the house occupied by their six children.

"I heard the victims' voices calling for help but I couldn't do anything because I didn't know where they were at the time," he said.

According to Danial, at the scene of the incident, he saw a victim being crushed by a landslide and heard voices calling for help.

"I panicked and immediately called the police and the fire department to report the incident," he said.

It was reported that at least three victims were trapped in the landslide.
