Flood victims in Malaysia rise to nearly 139,000

PETALING JAYA: The number of flood victims in the country has surged to almost 139,000.

Earlier Saturday morning, the number of evacuees at relief centres (PPS) was over 120,000, and 106,505 on Friday night.

Nine states have been affected by floods this weekend, with a total of 138,979 victims from 44,964 families as of 4pm on Saturday (Nov 30).

The worst affected state is Kelantan, which has recorded 87,788 victims and two deaths, followed by Terengganu with 39,220 victims and one death.

None of the other states have reported any flood-related deaths so far.

The number of victims appears to be rising in most states, except for Negeri Sembilan, where there is no change, and Perlis, Selangor, and Melaka, where the numbers seem to be decreasing.

There are currently 704 active temporary relief shelters across 37 districts throughout the country.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department has also forecast continuous rain in Perak (Hulu Perak), Kelantan (Gua Musang), and Terengganu (Dungun and Kemaman) until Sunday (Dec 1).
