Banks do their part to help

PETALING JAYA: CIMB Group Holdings Bhd has pledged RM2.5mil in community aid to its customers affected by the recent floods, as well as a six-month payment relief.

Additionally, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) may apply for a Disaster Relief Facility of up to RM700,000 from the financial provider.

In a statement, it said under the CIMB Flood Relief Assistance Plan, individuals, SMEs and micro SME customers who have been impacted by the floods can apply for a six-month payment relief on loan and financing products to help alleviate their financial burden.

To simplify the process, customers only need to provide their basic information to apply for the relief assistance while charges and fees for impacted customers will be waived.

SME customers who require additional cash flow assistance on top of the payment relief can apply for a Disaster Relief Facility of up to RM700,000 at a preferential financing rate, it said.

CIMB will work closely with its insurance partners to expedite the processing of insurance claims due to the floods.

“In addition to the Flood Relief Assistance Plan for customers, CIMB through its corporate social responsibility arm, CIMB Foundation and CIMB Islamic has committed RM2.5mil to provide community assistance for flood victims as well as recovery support post-floods.

“CIMB Foundation will collaborate with non-governmental organisations to disburse RM2.5mil for on-ground flood relief efforts as well as recovery support post-floods,” said a statement released by the company yesterday.

CIMB Group chief executive officer Novan Amirudin said it is hoped that the initiatives could alleviate victims’ burdens during disasters.

To apply for the CIMB Flood Relief Assistance Plan, individual customers can call CIMB’s contact centre at 03-6204 7788.

SMEs can apply for assistance directly online through www.cimb.com.my/frap.

Non-SMEs and corporate customers may also contact their CIMB relationship manager to discuss assistance options.

Meanwhile, Bernama also reported that Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) is offering flood relief assistance to ease the financial burden faced by individuals, SMEs, and other non-retail Maybank customers affected by the floods.

The list of assistance includes deferment of financing/loan repayment, a reduction in monthly instalments, or an extension of repayment tenure.

In a statement yesterday, the bank said customers can apply for flood relief assistance via email, or by visiting or contacting its branches, SME Centres, Business Banking Centres, or Auto Finance Centres nationwide.

“All applications will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis,” Maybank said.

Additionally, the bank is also offering a waiver of fees and charges for selected services, such as the replacement of debit cards, ATM cards or chequebooks lost or damaged during the floods.

At the same time, Maybank Group’s insurance arm, Etiqa, has put in place a quick and easy claim process for its insurance policyholders and takaful certificate holders, with no forms or supporting documents required.
