Floods: Manpower sufficient to deal with relief efforts, says Armed Forces chief

KUALA LUMPUR: There is currently no need for additional reinforcement to assist with flood relief efforts, says Jen Tan Sri Mohammad Ab Rahman.

“If there is a need to supplement forces, the decision will be made by the commander on the ground. They will look at the situation at hand and if needed we will move in assets and troops from unaffected states

“Manpower is very much sufficient right now,” said the Armed Forces chief when met after the Navy Run 2024 here on Sunday (Dec 1).

There are around 5,000 troops being deployed, he added.

Regarding the Air Force College in Kepala Batas, Mohammad said that the situation was being monitored.

“If (the floods) affect training then we can’t do much but wait for the situation to improve,” he said.

The number of flood victims housed in temporary evacuation centres has risen to 150,782 as of 9am today.

This figure involves 45,195 families placed in 699 relief centres across nine states namely Kelantan, Terengganu, Negri Sembilan, Kedah, Perlis, Johor, Pahang, Melaka, and Selangor.
