SHAH ALAM: Bersatu members must learn to keep the party’s shortcomings to themselves instead of revealing everything on social media platforms, says Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee.
The Bersatu vice-president also urged his party to reduce its dependency on the Perikatan Nasional wave, warning that such reliance is unsustainable for long-term political success.
Kiandee emphasised the need for strategic growth and introspection within Bersatu, especially after recent by-election losses.
“How can we hope to win elections if we continue to rely on a wave that will inevitably fade?
“We risk becoming a transient shelter, not a permanent home,” he said.
Kiandee said this in his winding-up speech at the Bersatu annual general meeting held at the Ideal Convention Centre here on Sunday (Dec 1).
The Beluran MP also said that while the Perikatan wave propelled the party to victory in Kelantan during the state elections, it faltered in subsequent by-elections.
“The voters who supported us in the general election didn’t show up for us in the by-elections.
“If we are serious about strengthening the party, there must be solid implementation of strategies,” he added.
Kiandee also called for more divisions and branches and for Bersatu to welcome members from rival parties such as Umno, PKR and DAP.
“In states like Pahang, Negri Sembilan, Selangor, Melaka and Johor, we must act and not simply hope for another wave.”
He also said it is essential to fortify Perikatan as a coalition, advocating for unity among member parties.
“No party should treat another as a punching bag. Discussions on issues like appointing a prime minister or a poster boy shouldn’t spill into public polemics or social media, where weaknesses are exposed for all to see. Others keep their flaws hidden, and so must we,” he said.
Ronald then urged for greater accountability and commitment within the party.
“Dreams and ambitions are fine but must be pursued with responsibility and dedication,” he stressed.
