Pasir Gudang MP welcomes PKR disciplinary board's decision

PASIR GUDANG: The decision not to take action against him is a mark of respect for a veteran leader, says Hassan Abdul Karim.

The Pasir Gudang MP said that he was grateful for the decision and added that the incident is a lesson for him.

He said it was his first time being called before the party’s disciplinary board in his 50 years of involvement in party politics.

"I have always practised free speech since I was young. However, I am older now, and I have to be wiser too," he said.

After hearing his side of the story, the disciplinary board decided on no action against him, which he viewed as a sign of respect towards him.

"When others respect me, I should do the same to them," he told reporters after inspecting potholes in his constituency on Sunday (Dec 1).

Hassan was asked to comment on the matter after he was previously called to the disciplinary board for criticising the award of the second 5G network deal to U Mobile, comparing it to the rise of crony capitalism.

He has also been critical of Johor’s decision to revert its weekend break to Saturday and Sunday, as well as the need for Umno to revamp its relationship.

When asked about PKR’s decision to postpone its 2024 National Congress due to floods, Hassan said it was a sensible move.

"We are aware that floods usually come in waves, so it is wise to postpone the congress, which was set for Dec 14 and 15," he said. We have to think of the rakyat as there are now more than 150,000 victims affected by floods," he added.

On Nov 30, PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil announced that the congress would be postponed due to ongoing floods affecting several states.

The congress was initially scheduled for Dec 15 at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre in Johor Baru, with the youth and women’s wing congresses set for Dec 14 at a separate location.
