5,000 soldiers deployed for relief work

KUALA LUMPUR: More than 5,000 Armed Forces personnel have been deployed to flood-stricken areas and more will be added should the need arise, says the Armed Forces chief.

Jen Tan Sri Mohammad Ab Rahman said as of now there is no need for reinforcements.

“If there is a need to supplement the forces, the commander on the ground will make that call. If needed, we will move in assets and troops from unaffected states.

“Manpower is sufficient right now,” he said, adding the entire 120,000-strong Armed Forces is ready if the situation calls for it.

Speaking to reporters after the Navy Run 2024 held here yesterday, Jen Mohammad said no field hospitals have been opened as yet.

On the floods at the Air Force College in Kepala Batas, Kedah, he said the situation is being monitored.
