Man arrested for making, trafficking ketum water in Balik Pulau house


BALIK PULAU: Police have arrested a man believed to be involved in the processing and trafficking of ketum water in a raid on a house in Kuala Jalan Bharu here on Sunday (Dec 1).

Balik Pulau OCPD Asst Comm Sazalee Adam said the 58-year-old suspect was arrested with about 11,400ml in 600 packs of ketum juice, and 27kg in ketum leaves at his house at about 2.30am

He said police also found cooking utensils worth about RM3,000 that can produce about 600 packs of ketum juice for distribution.

"Intelligence found the suspect is a repeated offender and has been caught several times," he said.

He said checks found the suspect possessed six prior records under the Poisons Act 1952, two records under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and two criminal records.

He said an initial urine check on the subject found negative for drugs.

He said the suspect has been remanded for four days from Dec 2 until Dec 5.

The case is investigated under Section 30 (3) of the Poisons Act 1952.
