Man who set fire to own home caught

SUNGAI BULOH: A man who set his own house on fire was apprehended by the public after the blaze spread to nearby homes.

Sungai Buloh OCPD Supt Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said the suspect was arrested after he was caught by members of the public in Kuang on Saturday.

“Information from witnesses showed that the suspect had burned his own house, resulting in the fire spreading to other homes in the area. The 34-year-old has been handed over to the authorities.

“As of now, investigations are ongoing to determine the exact motive behind the incident. He has been remanded until Dec 4,” he said in a statement yesterday.

When contacted, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar said the fire had affected three houses.

One house was completely burned down, while the other two were 80% and 70% destroyed.

A firefighter was injured during efforts to extinguish the fire.

“The victim is conscious and was brought to Hospital Sungai Buloh,” he said, adding that the firefighter was in a stable condition.
