Parents should prevent their underage kids from watching movies that depict bullying, says Johor exco member

JOHOR BARU: Parents should prevent their underage children from watching movies that normalises bullying, says a Johor executive councillor.

Such movies have the potential to leave negative influences on the young minds, says state education and information committee chairman Aznan Tamin (pic).

“Cinema operators should ensure that underage patrons do not watch movies that are rated for viewers aged 18 years and above

“When the movie content touches on bullying and other (negative) activities, we do not condone it.

“I hope the Education Ministry and parents monitor their children, especially those aged 18 and below, to prevent them from watching such films,” he said when asked to comment on the matter during his visit to SMK Tasek Utara here on Monday (Dec 2).

The issue of bullying has been a hot topic among Malaysians of late, especially following the screening of a local movie that depicts students involved in bullying at a school.

Aznan added that while there were no cases of school bullying reported in Johor so far, the state Education Department would monitor the situation to prevent such incidents from happening..
