Student denies molesting girl


JOHOR BARU: A public university student pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here to a charge of sexual assault against a teenage girl last year.

Muhammad Amirul Akmal Kamarulzaman, 29, made the plea after the charge was read to him before judge Hazeelia Muhammad yesterday.

According to the charge sheet, he sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl by kissing her lips and touching her private parts.

The act was allegedly committed at a house in Jalan Panglin, Taman Perling here between April and May last year.

The offence was framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act, which carries a maximum 20 years’ jail and whipping upon conviction.

The accused is also required to hand over his international passport to the court and report himself once every month to the nearest police station.

The court set bail at RM10,000 in two sureties.

It also set Dec 5 for next mention of the case. The accused posted bail.
