Landslide cuts off Orang Asli community in Pos Gob, Kelantan

GUA MUSANG: The main route for the Orang Asli community in Pos Gob was inaccessible following a slope collapse near Sungai Pelat, here, on Monday (Dec 2).

The incident resulted in about 500 Orang Asli residents of the Temiar tribe being cut off from their contact and unable to travel along the road.

Pos Gob Orang Asli Village Network head Yusman Abdol said the seven villages affected are Kampung Gob, Kampung Kacheng, Kampung Brog, Kampung Bercap, Kampung Tembaga, Kampung Kelerang and Kampung Rang.

"The incident may have occurred due to rain since Nov 20, which caused the soil on the slope to become damp. We only realised the route was closed after we went out in a group to go to Gua Musang town to get food supplies.

"We took the opportunity to go out since the weather was clear and there was no rain yesterday, but upon arriving at the Sungai Pelat area, the road was blocked by fallen trees and the road was also covered in thick mud," he said when contacted.

According to him, it took them more than two hours to remove the fallen trees and had to lift the motorcycle that was submerged in the mud.

"The journey took more than eight hours to get out of Pos Gob compared to what usually only takes four to five hours," he said, adding that he is asking the authorities to take immediate action. - Bernama
