MELAKA: The Melaka Government is set to provide vital support for thousands of kidney patients in the state, according to Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.

The Chief Minister announced plans to propose a special budget for financial aid for these patients in the upcoming state legislative assembly.

"I am directing each chairman of the Village Development and Security Committee in the state to gather data on kidney patients undergoing dialysis treatments in their respective areas.

"This data will guide me in drafting a policy aimed at alleviating the burden of kidney patients in the state," he said after handing over letters of appointment and certificates to Village Development and Security Committee heads and members of the Civil Defense Force Emergency Response Team at a hotel in Ayer Keroh on Tuesday (Dec 3).

Civil Defence Force Chief Commissioner Datuk Aminurrahim Mohamed was also present at the event.

Ab Rauf emphasised the importance of addressing the welfare of dialysis patients, particularly given the high costs of treatment.

"Dialysis treatment is expensive, with each session costing at least RM200, and my administration is taking steps to alleviate the burden of these patients by formulating financial assistance," he said.

During the event, Ab Rauf also acknowledged the role of JPKK in organising community activities related to village development and welfare, as well as addressing the concerns and complaints of villagers to relevant authorities.
