KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood evacuees in Pahang, Johor and parts of Perak continues to rise with another flood-related death recorded as of 12pm on Tuesday, according to the National Disaster Management Agency.
In Pahang, the number of evacuees rose to 1,862 across the districts of Raub and Lipis.
In Johor, there were 1,052 evacuees, compared to the 1,032 recorded at 6am earlier Tuesday (Dec 3).
Kinta in Perak recorded an increasing number of evacuees at 369.
The death toll also rose to six, with a new death recorded in Dungun, Terengganu on Monday (Dec 2).
The total number of flood evacuees nationwide meanwhile fell to 90,585, which is about 4,000 less than 6am on Tuesday.
Apart from Pahang and Johor, other affected states are gradually recovering.
Kelantan continues to be the hardest hit with 57,055 evacuees, followed by Terengganu (22,775), Kedah (7,021), Perak (616), Melaka (161) and Perlis (43).
On Monday, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) also forecasted severe thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rains in Kelantan and Terengganu beginning Dec 3 until Dec 4.
In a statement, MetMalaysia said these weather conditions were due to the convergence of winds that have the potential to generate severe thunderstorms and heavy rain during this period.
"The monsoon surge is expected to start from Dec 8 to Dec 14, 2024. This situation has the potential to cause continuous rain in the eastern Peninsula during the specified period," the statement said on Monday (Dec 3).
