RM520,000 worth of drugs seized in raid

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Police have confiscated drugs worth more than half a million ringgit and arrested a 33-year-old man during a raid in Mutiara Rini here.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M. Kumarasan said the raid at 2pm on Nov 28 was conducted by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department.

“The operation led to the arrest of a man. His bag was found to contain a variety of illicit substances.

“Among those seized were 3,115g of Ecstasy powder valued at RM520,205; 9.9g of ketamine worth RM1,980; 1.4g of methamphetamine worth RM154; 4.2g of Ecstasy pills valued at RM500; and 1.14g of Erimin 5 pills worth RM200.

“The total value of the drugs seized in the operation is RM523,039,” he told a press conference at the Iskandar Puteri district police headquarters here yesterday.

ACP Kumarasan added that the suspect tested positive for methamphetamine.

“A background check revealed that he has no criminal record related to drugs or other offences.

“The suspect has been actively selling drugs since July last year at entertainment centres around Johor Baru and Iskandar Puteri,” he said, adding the drugs could have been consumed by 3,500 addicts.

The suspect had been remanded for five days to assist with investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking.
