IPOH: Under the first phase of the plan, seven local authorities in Perak have received body-worn cameras, says state housing and local government committee chairman Sandrea Ng.
She said the seven local councils on average have received two cameras each.
The seven local councils are - Ipoh City Council, Manjung Municipal Council, Taiping Municipal Council, Teluk Intan Municipal Council, Kuala Kangsar Municipal Council, Kampar District Council and Batu Gajah District Council.
“Personnel conducting enforcement duties related to illegal dumpsites, capturing strays, or inspecting food premises under the purview of the councils will use body cameras.
“This is to ensure all the operations are carried out more transparently, professionally and ethically for the benefit of all,” she said when presenting the body-worn cameras to representatives of the respective councils at the state secretariat building here on Tuesday (Dec 3).
Ng said after the Kuala Lumpur City Hall, the seven local authorities in Perak have been provided with the devices.
She said the remaining eight local authorities in the state would be receiving the cameras in the first quarter of next year.
Ng said enforcement personnel often faced great challenges in their line of duty, adding that being equipped with body-cams would prevent acts of wrongdoing and address issues of integrity among officers.
“Cooperation from all parties is necessary. Both the local government, and the public in particular, must play an important role in providing cooperation to personnel who carry out their responsibilities,” she added.
