KUALA LUMPUR: Four representatives of southern China's Miao minority group attended the 5th World Association Presidents' Conference (WAPC) here looking resplendent in full traditional garb.
Their colourful and eye-catching attire attracted a lot of attention and appreciation from other attendees, who often stopped them for pictures.
International and Domestic Public Relations Association of Qiannan, Guizhou Province executive president and secretary-general Yang Yan said she was happy and excited to be part of the event.
“I really like and love this beautiful country. Malaysians are very joyful and welcoming, and we hope to promote friendly exchanges,” she said when met on Monday (Dec 2), adding that it was her first visit to the country.
Her headgear mirrored her enthusiastic tone, shimmering as she spoke.
Yang said her entourage represented the Miao ethnic group from Southern Guizhou in China.

She added that her people dressed in traditional ethnic costumes for major festivals and important events.
“This is to show respect and regard for the event organisers.
“This is a grand event for us and we must wear our traditional ethnic attire and bring our hometown’s wine to offer our congratulations and share with our Malaysian guests and friends,” she said.

She said she came to promote friendly exchanges between the two countries, as well as develop tourism between Qiannan and Malaysia.
“We will share the insights from today and reflect these findings to our local government,” she said.
She also said she was glad to try local fruits such as durian and mangosteen, which she found delicious.
Yang said she was looking forward to her group's remaining two days here to explore Kuala Lumpur.
This year's edition of the WAPC is being held for the first time outside China and is co-hosted by the MCA, the Malaysia-China Friendship Association, and the China Enterprises Chamber of Commerce in Malaysia.
