Drowned teen’s body recovered from river near Chukai


CHUKAI: A 16-year-old boy who was swept away by strong currents while swimming in Sungai Neram at Felda Neram 1 near here on Tuesday (Dec 3) was found drowned on Wednesday.

The commander of the Special Tactical Operations and Rescue Team (STORM) for Zone 2 of the Fire and Rescue Department, Terengganu, Mohd Zailani Abdullah, said the victim was discovered at 8.10am, about 400m from where he was last seen by witnesses.

"Our operational technique involved periodic and continuous searches along the riverbank from last night until this morning. The victim was found entangled in tree branches submerged in the water.

"The victim was discovered intact, wearing a blue shirt and black tracksuit pants. We have handed the body over to the police for further action,” he said when contacted on Wednesday (Dec 4).

Earlier, Form Four student from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Felda Neram, Mohd Yusuf Adnan, 16, was feared drowned while swimming in Sungai Neram on Tuesday.

He was said to be swimming with 10 friends when he was swept away by strong currents at about 4pm. - Bernama
