KUALA LUMPUR: The conditions in six flood-affected states - Kelantan, Johor, Terengganu, Perak, Melaka and Kedah - are improving, while the situation in Pahang has slightly deteriorated, with the total number of evacuees falling to 57,980 people on Wednesday (Dec 4) afternoon, compared to 65,899 in the morning.
The number of fatalities remains at seven.
In KELANTAN, 39,757 individuals are currently housed in 93 temporary relief centres in four districts as of Wednesday afternoon, compared to 43,667 in the morning.
According to the Social Welfare Department's Info Bencana portal, Pasir Mas remains the hardest-hit district with 18,866 victims, followed by Tumpat (20,439), Kota Bharu (403) and Bachok (49).
The Irrigation and Drainage Department's (DID) infobanjir.water.gov.my portal reported that only two major rivers in the state remain above the danger level, namely Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang at 9.52m and Sungai Golok in Tumpat (3.65m).
In JOHOR, the number of flood victims also fell to 1,029 people as of 4pm, compared to 1,062 in the morning.
State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) chairman Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani stated that two centres have closed, with only 18 still operating in the two flood-hit districts, namely in Segamat (858 victims in 16 centres) and Tangkak (171 victims in two centres).
The flood situation in TERENGGANU is also improving, with 10,870 evacuees still housed in 41 centres in the six affected districts as of 4pm Wednesday, compared to 14,294 people in the morning.
In PERAK, the number of evacuees in the six centres has decreased to 282, compared to 383 in the morning.
There has been a similar decline in the number of evacuees in three districts in KEDAH, with 5,815 victims housed in 27 centres compared to 6,268 in the morning.
In MELAKA, 172 evacuees are still housed at the two centres in Jasin, with no changes reported.
In PAHANG, the number of flood victims has slightly increased to 55 people, compared to 53 in the morning, with the two affected districts being Temerloh and Bera. – Bernama
