TANAH MERAH: Victims in several villages affected by the recent floods here are unable to breathe a sigh of relief even though the waters are receding, as a second wave has been forecast.

Muhammad Amir Noor, 23, from Kampung Manal here, said that after facing the floods last week, he and his family members were still on the alert for the next wave.

"Nowadays, I always read about the current developments and rainfall forecasts reported by the media and agencies.

"We tidy our house (the best we can), with many items still stored in high places such as electrical items and furniture to make it easier for us to (evacuate) to temporary relief centres or relatives' houses," he said when met on Wednesday (Dec 4).

Amir said last week's floods brought waist-deep water into their home.

"We have to be careful if the second wave occurs and if it rains heavily," he said.

Another victim from Kampung Lubok Agong here, Muhamad Rosdi Mamat, 42, said that last week's unexpected floods prompted him to take precautionary measures now in the event of a second wave.

"During the flood last week, the water level here rose first to waist level and then chest height, but luckily most residents in this area quickly moved their vehicles and left for the temporary relief centre.

"For now, I am leaving my household items on higher ground just in case," he said. – Bernama
