PUTRAJAYA: In the spirit of inclusivity and festive cheer, the Housing and Local Government Ministry has decorated its lobby here with an array of Christmas decorations ahead of the holiday season.
Featuring fairy lights and a Christmas tree adorned with seasonal ornaments, the decorations aim to create a festive atmosphere while celebrating Malaysia's multicultural society.
During the light-up ceremony, a choir, whose members were made up of various ethnic groups, including indigenous people from Sabah and Sarawak, performed Christmas carols such as Feliz Navidad and We Wish You a Merry Christmas.
“At the ministry, we strongly believe that recognising and appreciating all cultural and religious festivities is key to strengthening harmony,” said minister Nga Kor Ming.
“Some civil servants from East Malaysia expressed their delight, sharing that they had waited years to witness a government truly embracing the principles of diversity and openness, bringing the spirit of harmony and inclusion into the workplace,” he added.
During the ceremony, Nga also highlighted the ministry's ongoing commitment to celebrating all major festivals.
Since last year, the ministry has decorated its lobby to mark the country's various festivals, such as Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year, Deepavali and Christmas, showcasing the spirit of Malaysia Truly Asia and the motto of “unity in diversity.”
Such events also attracted foreign tourists, including visitors from the United Kingdom, who came to experience Malaysia’s multicultural appeal.
Among those who attended the event were ministry secretary-general Datuk Wira M. Noor Azman, PLANMalaysia director-general Datuk Dr Alias Rameli, National Solid Waste Management Department director-general Datuk Dr Mohd Azhar Abd Hamid, Local Government Department director-general Datuk Mohd Fadzli Mohd Kenali, and National Housing Department director-general Datuk KN Jayaselan, along with other ministry officials.
