IPOH: A Japanese tea ceremony demonstration will be among the highlights at a charity bazaar here on Saturday. (Dec 7).
The proceeds from the event, being organised for the 17th time by the Meru Valley Patchwork Society, would go towards a children’s home.
Datin Mina Ushiama, a Japanese citizen who has been residing in Ipoh, Perak, since 1974, said besides the demonstration to be held for the first time, interesting handicrafts would be up for sale as well.
Ushiama said a 192cm by 233cm queen-sized patchwork bed cover would be among the items for sale.
“It took me nearly a year to finish quilting the piece, as I had to plan for the other items to be made by my members as well.
“We have prepared about 200 items for the bazaar, which took us almost a year to complete,” she said.
Ushiama set up the society in 2007 and held her first charity bazaar the following year.
The handicrafts are made by 10 women living in Meru Valley Resort.
She said besides the bed cover, crochet scrunchies, handphone straps, bags, place mats, coasters, wireless earphone cases, layered paper crafts and greeting cards would also be available.
Ushiama said they raised about RM15,000 annually with the proceeds going to a home for physically challenged children in Silibin.
The charity bazaar will be held at the function room of Meru Valley Resort from 10am to 3pm.
Besides handicraft, there will also be food like cookies, chicken pies and Chirashizushi (scattered sushi bowl), and kitchenware, ornaments and jewellery sold.
