Lorry driver nabbed for ramming three vehicles in drink-driving incident

JOHOR BARU: A 29-year-old lorry driver was arrested for ramming into three vehicles while driving under the influence of alcohol.

Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Balveer Singh said the accident took place in Taman Impian Emas at around 9.30pm Tuesday (Dec 3).

“The lorry, which was in a parking lot in Jalan Emas 6, drove forwards before reversing into three cars that were parked in front and behind the heavy vehicle,” he said in a statement Wednesday (Dec 4).

Police brought the lorry driver to the Johor Baru North police headquarters’ traffic enforcement unit where he went through a breathalyser test, he added.

“The test showed his breath alcohol level exceeded the permitted level and he was arrested to assist in investigations,” said ACP Balveer.

The suspect is being investigated under Section 45(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for drink driving, which is punishable with a maximum fine of RM30,000 and two years’ imprisonment, or both, and also having his driving licence suspended upon conviction.

He is also being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 for failing to control his vehicle and causing an accident, which could be compounded with a RM300 fine if found guilty.
