Perak expects heavy rainfall in Hulu Perak, says MB

IPOH: The Perak state government is expecting heavy rainfall at Hulu Perak that will probably cause a second wave of flooding in the state, says Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

The Perak Mentri Besar said heavy rainfall is expected between Dec 8 and 14 in the Temenggor and Royal Belum areas.

“So if indeed the rainfall is heavy, Sungai Perak will overflow, as whether we like it or not, water from the dams must be released.

“So that will cause water at Sungai Perak to overflow, and we must be prepared for floods to happen in several areas in the state,” he told reporters at the sidelines of the state assembly sitting here on Wednesday (Dec 4).

Saarani said the state government was prepared for the second wave of floods.

Earlier when asked if the state government had sent volunteers or aid to states badly affected by the floods, Saarani said.

“There are several non-governmental organisations and political parties including Wanita Umno who have gone to assist in states affected by floods.

“However we also need them to be on standby in Perak, as we are expecting a second wave of flooding to occur,” he added.

In the last few weeks several areas in the state experienced flooding, and on Dec 1, several residential areas in Ipoh, including Kampung Tasek, Kampung Seri Kinta and Arena Kepayang Putra, were inundated after more than 10 hours of continuous rainfall.
