KUALA LUMPUR: A 34-year-old female Chinese national has been detained in connection with the stabbing of a cashier at a restaurant in a shopping mall in Cheras.
This arrest brings the total number of suspects in the murder case to eight.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Commissioner Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the latest suspect was detained at about 4.30pm on Wednesday (Dec 4) at KL Sentral.
"She will be remanded for further investigation. We are investigating whether she is the main suspect," he said when contacted on Thursday (Dec 5).
The remand for the other seven suspects, who were detained previously, will end on Friday (Dec 6), he added.
"The remand for the suspects—two male Chinese citizens, two men and two women from Myanmar, and a local male—will end tomorrow. We will apply for the remand to be extended," he said.
A post-mortem revealed that the cause of death of the victim was injuries to her lungs and bleeding.
"We are still investigating the motive behind the murder," he added.
A 49-year-old woman from China was stabbed to death at a restaurant in a shopping mall in Cheras.
The incident occurred between 3pm and 4pm last Friday (Nov 29).
"There were four to five stab wounds on her body. We have detained seven of her colleagues to assist with the investigation," Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Aidil Bolhassan had said.
The body has been sent to a nearby hospital for a post-mortem, he added.
"We are tracking down other witnesses and investigating the motive behind the murder," he said.
