HK promo video sends shivers down spines

A PROMOTIONAL video aired by a Hong Kong broadcasting company, featuring a woman with long hair dressed in red has sparked complaints about being too scary.

The clip highlighted eerie music and jump scares as well, Sin Chew Daily reported.

Hong Kong’s Communications Authority has received 168 complaints since broadcaster TVB aired the clip on the TVB Jade and J2 channels in April to promote a supernatural show titled You Are Not Alone.

In a reply to an inquiry by the Communications Authority, TVB explained that the clip was not any scarier than other promotional videos for horror films aired in the past.

According to TVB, the woman in red appeared very briefly in the clip. It also stated that it did not intend to upset viewers, but rather to generate interest in the television show. However, the Communications Authority said that broadcasters must ensure that they do not cause emotional distress for viewers.

Additionally, it claimed that TVB had neglected to alert viewers to the impending display of disturbing content, in violation of Hong Kong’s Generic Code of Practice on Television Programme Standards.

> Mandopop King Jay Chou reacted humorously to news of fans planning to sneak into his sold-out concerts.

China Press reported that the superstar uploaded an Instagram video of himself performing Secret Code with altered lyrics.

“You won’t want to continue wandering in the underground sewers underneath the Taipei Arena,” he sang jokingly.

He also quipped that he would sing louder to reach those who might attempt the daring feat.

This was in response to reports that some of his fans wanted to access the stadium through the underground sewer system.

They were frustrated by the sold-out 150,000 tickets to his concerts this month.

A dedicated Facebook group had even formed to coordinate the daring endeavour.
