Agencies under Transport Ministry mobilise for flood relief efforts nationwide

PETALING JAYA: Multiple agencies under the Transport Ministry have come together to support flood-relief efforts following the disaster that struck several states.

In a statement, the Transport Ministry said it has also launched a Tabung Bantuan Ihsan Madani MOT 2024 to provide assistance to flood victims.

Additionally, the ministry has set up the Ihsan Madani operations centre, which began operating on Dec 2, to streamline disaster management efforts.

The centre can be contacted at +603 8892 1196 or via email at ihsanmadanimot@mot.gov.my.

The Road Transport Department will also mobilise its lorries, four-wheel drives, and volunteers to assist with cleaning efforts and the transportation of essential supplies to affected areas.

This effort involves about 80 assets and 400 volunteers.

"The department's academy in Kota Baru, Kelantan, is also being used by the Health Ministry to provide aid to flood victims," said the ministry on Friday (Dec 6).

The ministry further noted that the Land Public Transport Agency has advised express bus and train operators to provide updates on their current locations.

For passengers who have already purchased tickets, operators are encouraged to offer full refunds or allow for travel date changes.

In addition, stage bus operators are instructed to use alternative and safe routes to ensure passengers’ travel needs are met, subject to official guidance.

Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) will also be offering special routes to Bukit Abu, Kuala Gris, and Dabong, among others, to help students, particularly those sitting for SPM exams, reach their destinations.

"KTMB will also offer a full refund to all affected passengers within a seven day period. This can be done online or over the counter. This refund period has also been extended for a period of 30 days," it said.

The ministry said Prasarana Malaysia Berhad and MRT Corp have launched disaster-relief funds to purchase essential supplies for flood victims.

"MRT Corp is also deploying buses and four-wheel drives to flood affected areas."

The Malaysia Marine Department is on standby to assist in emergencies, and the ministry stated that the Rail Asset Corporation is coordinating with the National Disaster Management Agency to channel donations to flood victims.

"Two volunteer teams have been formed to help with post-flood recovery efforts," said the ministry.

Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd and CCC-ECRL Sdn Bhd are also providing transport services and human resources to assist flood victims in Kelantan and Terengganu.

Additionally, the ministry reminded customers that, in line with the amended Malaysian Aviation Consumer Protection Code 2016, they are entitled to refunds for flight delays or interruptions caused by natural disasters.

In Kuantan, Pahang, the ministry said the Kuantan Port Authority is on standby to provide disaster relief to flood victims.
