KUALA LUMPUR: A 34-year-old Chinese national, believed to be the main suspect, has been arrested over the fatal stabbing of a cashier at a restaurant in a shopping mall in Cheras here.
This brings the total number of arrests in the murder case to eight.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the latest suspect was detained at KL Sentral at about 4.30pm on Wednesday.
“She will be remanded for further investigation into the case,” he said when contacted yesterday.
He added that a sharp weapon, believed to have been used in the murder, was seized.
Comm Rusdi said the remand for the other seven suspects – who were colleagues of the victim – detained previously ends today.
The seven comprise two male Chinese citizens, two men and two women from Myanmar, and a local male.
“We will apply for the remand to be extended,” he added.
Comm Rusdi said the post-mortem revealed that the victim, also from China, had died of injuries to her lungs and bleeding.
“We are still investigating the motive behind the murder,” he said.
Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Aidil Bolhassan previously said the deceased, 49, was stabbed to death at the restaurant between 3pm and 4pm last Friday.
“There were four or five stab wounds on her body,” he said.
