KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood victims in Kelantan, Kedah and Terengganu has continued to show a declining trend as of this morning, while figures in Johor, Perak, Melaka and Pahang remain unchanged.
In Kelantan, the number of evacuees has decreased to 23,366 people from 7,551 families at 50 temporary relief centres (as of 8am, compared to 24,416 people on Thursday (Dec 5) night.
According to the Social Welfare Department's Disaster Info Portal, this figure includes 19 victims from four families at a relief centre in Jeli that reopened last night.
The Tumpat district still records the highest number of victims, totalling 13,879 from 4,345 families at 32 relief centres, followed by Pasir Mas with 9,468 people from 3,203 families at 17 relief centres.
In Kedah, the number of victims has further decreased to 3,676 people from 1,088 families this morning, compared to 4,141 people from 1,230 families last night.
Malaysian Civil Defence Force Kedah deputy director Major (PA) Muhammad Suhaimi Mohd Zain said all victims from the three affected districts are still housed at 23 relief centres.
"Kota Setar still records the highest number, with 2,974 people from 888 families at 16 relief centres, followed by Kubang Pasu with 585 people from 165 families at four relief centres, and Pokok Sena with 117 people from 35 families at three relief centres,” he said in a statement on Friday (Dec 6).
In Terengganu, the number of flood victims has dropped to 1,052 people from 260 families, compared to 1,692 people from 428 families reported last night.
The Terengganu State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported that all victims are from two affected districts: Kuala Nerus, with 976 victims at eight relief centres, and Setiu, with 76 victims at two relief centres.
In Johor, State Disaster Management Committee chairman Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani said the number of flood victims in Segamat and Tangkak remains unchanged at 975 people from 271 families as of this morning, housed at 17 relief centres.
In Perak, the State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported that the number of victims in two affected districts, Kinta and Perak Tengah, remains unchanged at 149 people from 51 families housed at five relief centres as of this morning.
In Melaka, the number of flood victims also remains at 148 people from 37 families this morning, according to the Melaka State Disaster Management Secretariat.
In a statement, the secretariat said all victims are residents of the Jasin district, with 109 victims from 27 families at relief centre of SK Parit Penghulu and 39 victims from 10 families at the relief centre of SK Seri Mendapat.
In Pahang, according to the State Disaster Management Info application, the number of victims in the Maran district remains at 15 people from five families as of this morning, housed at the Balairaya Kampung Baru Pertanian relief centre in Maran. - Bernama
