Let special task force investigate assault case on doctor at Gerik Hospital, says Dr Dzul

TUMPAT: The Health Ministry is leaving it to the independent special task force, led by former chief secretary to the government Tan Sri Borhan Dollah, to conduct a thorough investigation into the case where a medical officer assaulted a doctor at Gerik Hospital in Perak.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said that his ministry is also awaiting results of the police probe before making any decision regarding the case, reported Sinar Harian.

"Such cases are rare and do not affect the image of the Health Ministry," he said during a press conference after visiting flood victims at the temporary relief centre (PPS) at Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) here on Saturday (Dec 7).

The Perak state Health Department has also formed a special investigation committee to probe the case.

Dzulkefly urged parties not to speculate on the matter, as investigation into the case is still ongoing.

Earlier, Perak health director Dr Feisul Idzwan Mustapha said the medical officer in question was issued a letter reprimanding him on July 31, following an internal investigation on the matter.

"The internal investigation committee was set up the same day the complaint was lodged, on June 4.

"The investigation was conducted on June 12 and found that the complaint had basis," he said in a statement on Facebook on Thursday (Dec 4).

Dr Feisul Idzwan had issued the statement following a post on Facebook that was uploaded by one Aidid Nawawi Ghazali, who claimed that he had been traumatised after being beaten up by an assistant medical officer.

In the post, Aidid Nawawi claimed that he was hit on his back seven times and twice behind his head.

He also felt that the summary of the investigation was unfair because the medical officer did not receive any actions, had not apologised and was still working.
