Expelled Umno members should not return to cause turmoil, says Saarani

IPOH: There is no need for expelled Umno members who could not follow the rules to return and cause trouble in the party, says Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

The Perak Mentri Besar said that the party is ready to accept and welcome back new members or those who wish to return, to strengthen the party. However, they must adhere to its constitution and practice discipline.

“Please don’t come back and cause turmoil in Umno,” he told reporters after participating in a fishing event organised by the state government near Batu Gajah here on Sunday (Dec 8).

“In Perak itself, besides the reinstatement of former Pasir Salak MP Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, I have not heard of anyone else so far wishing to return to the party.

“A former Kuala Kangsar Youth chief was sacked after he supported the opposition when he did not get a seat to contest in Manong.

“Then long ago, former youth chiefs in Bagan Datuk and Tambun were also sacked for supporting opponents,” said Saarani, who is also the Perak Umno chairman.

He said that Barisan would continue to cooperate with Pakatan Harapan in the 16th General Election.

“We are confident that by following the Mahkota and Nenggiri by-election formulas, we can get more seats compared to the 15th General Election,” he said.

On Dec 1, party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that expelled Umno members may have the opportunity to rejoin the party if they demonstrated genuine commitment.

He noted that the Umno Supreme Council recently reinstated Tajuddin, setting a precedent for others who wish to follow suit.
