PETALING JAYA: The pilots of a Malaysia Airlines flight have earned praise from social media users for the way they handled a challenging final approach into London’s Heathrow Airport in the midst of a storm hitting the United Kingdom.
These responses and reactions came after a clip from the aviation spotter channel Big Jet TV was shared on the True Malaysia Airlines Fans Facebook group showing a Malaysia Airlines Airbus A350-900 maintaining a steady cruise while battling turbulence caused by strong crosswinds from Storm Darragh.
Social media users who commented on the post were full of praise for the pilots with many posting applause and thumbs-up emojis.
"Awesome MH pilots" said Azreen Aznan, while Yahya Yusof said that the “MH flight takes it like a man"
"Amazing flying by the captain. What a great crabbing!!! Hats off and hurrah to MAS captain," added Wai Long Mok.
Similarly, Rama Rakesh V said that the video shows a “nice crosswind landing” by the Malaysia Airlines pilots while Salih Jamil said that “MAS has many ace pilots, they can do it.”
In the video, the Malaysia Airlines pilots can be seen performing a "crabbing" technique before safely landing the aircraft, leaving the spotter who took the video exclaiming in awe and delight.
Pilots use the crabbing technique in crosswind conditions by maneuvering an aircraft in a diagonal position, pointing its nose against the wind while continuing to cruise towards the runway.
It is not the first time Malaysian Airlines pilots have displayed impressive landing skills as there have been similar videos showing them outdoing adverse weather in such situations in the past.
