Man gets 11 years in jail, five strokes of rotan for molesting teen daughter

MUAR: A man was sentenced to 11 years in jail and five strokes of the rotan after he pleaded guilty to molesting his 16-year-old daughter.

According to Sin Chew Daily, Sessions Court Judge Sayani Mohd Nor meted out the sentence after the 42-year-old man expressed remorse and pleaded for leniency.

He was accused of molesting his daughter at 12.30am on Dec 1 at home in Kluang.

The abuse came to light after the victim informed a school counsellor who contacted the victim's mother.

The man was arrested on Dec 3.

He was charged under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and caning.

He was also charged under Section 16 of the same act, with added penalties of up to five years in prison and at least two strokes for each offence.

Deputy public prosecutor Diyana Najihah Muhamed Fauzi prosecuted, while the defendant was unrepresented.

The man was sentenced to eight years in prison and three strokes of the rotan for the first charge, and three additional years and two strokes for the second charge, with the sentences to run consecutively.
