KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is ready to deal with coverage problems in flood-affected areas during the second wave, says Fahmi Fadzil.
The Communications Minister said almost all 323 telecommunications transmission towers that were affected in the first wave of floods have been restored and are fully operational.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) had forecast a second wave of floods over two weeks starting yesterday.
“We will continue to monitor telecommunications infrastructure, especially ahead of the expected second wave of floods,” Fahmi said at a press conference after launching the Lembah Pantai Ummah Peduli Tour programme 2024 here yesterday, Bernama reported.
Earlier, in his speech, the minister said MCMC will expedite the repair of affected transmission towers to ensure local residents are not cut off from communication lines during emergencies.
Pahang and Johor are among the states expected to be affected by the second wave of floods this time, according to MetMalaysia.
In the programme organised by the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisation (Mapim), Fahmi, who is also Lembah Pantai MP, presented donations to underprivileged families in the area.
According to him, 500 aid boxes were distributed to eligible recipients. Hot meals were also provided to more than 1,000 people through Mapim’s mobile kitchen, Fahmi added.A total of 200 residents also had free health checks provided by a double-decker mobile clinic bus.Other activities held included Kenduri Rakyat, Rahmah sales, e-sports, sports and a colouring competition to enliven the atmosphere in the community.
