PETALING JAYA: Selangor football player Faisal Abdul Halim was among the 94 people honoured during the 79th birthday celebration of Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

The acid attack survivor received the Darjah Kebesaran Ahli-Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah (A.I.S.), alongside 16 other recipients at a ceremony held at Balairung Seri, Istana Alam Shah on Wednesday (Dec 11).

The national winger, who is popularly known as "Mickey" among football fans, said that he was grateful and touched by the honour.

"This moment will be something I will remember forever and will be a new motivation for me to work harder and give my best in everything," he said on Facebook after the ceremony.

May 5, 26-year-old Faisal suffered fourth-degree burns on several parts of his body after being doused with acid by an unknown individual at a shopping mall in Kota Damansara and had to be treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for about 10 days.

He made his long-awaited return to football three months later on Aug 10.
