HUNDREDS of vehicle number plates were found in front of a house in Kota Baru after floodwaters receded in Kelantan last week, Sinar Harian reported.
“My children and I collected the number plates and we left them by the fence of the house so that vehicle owners can retrieve them,” said pensioner Ahya Abdullah, 65.
He said the heavy rain on Dec 4 resulted in water rising to over 30cm in front of his home along Jalan Kuala Krai-Jalan Ketereh, which is near the main road from Gua Musang to Kota Baru.
Many car drivers used that route as they were not aware of the floods at that location, he said.
Ahya said the cost of making a new number plate is not cheap, so drivers should look for their missing plates at his home.
“We collected hundreds of number plates on Sunday after the floodwaters receded,” he added.
> Berita Harian reported that Kuala Krai residents in Kelantan have put up 10 huge tents that could accommodate up to 500 people in the event of a second wave of floods.
Kuala Nal district head Abd Samad Che Yajid said the tents, made of canvas, wood and plywood, would have cooking facilities as well.
Many residents have found it difficult to get to flood relief centres located outside their areas because the main road to their homes would be flooded as well.
“So we took the initiative to build the tents as it is the only way for residents to find refuge,” he said.
