PERKESO paid over RM2.1bil to policy holders last year

COMPENSATION amounting to RM2.12bil was paid by the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) to some 219,640 policy holders last year, the Dewan Rakyat was told.

Human Resources Minister Steven Sim said compensation was paid to those who were left permanently and temporarily disabled and to pensions and invalidity scheme recipients.

Of the total compensation paid, RM2.1bil was to 215,113 policy holders through the employment injury and invalidity scheme under the Employee’s Social Security Act (Act 4).

PERKESO had also paid RM26.54mil to 4,476 policy holders under the Self-Employment Social Security Scheme (Act 789).

Meanwhile, RM75,947 was paid to 51 recipients under the Housewives’ Social Security Scheme (Act 838).

On another matter, Sim said PERKESO is also looking into expanding coverage for policy holders beyond working hours.

“Engagements have been held with various ministries, agencies and employees.

“The feedback has been positive so far,” he said in response to a question by Datuk Seri Ismail Abd Muttalib (PN-Maran) who asked if social security coverage would be extended to outside working hours.

The minister expressed hope for support of MPs when the Bill is tabled in Parliament.
