PETALING JAYA: The Association of Private Hospitals Malaysia (APHM) fully supports the cost containment proposals for private healthcare introduced by the Prime Minister in Parliament, says its president Datuk Dr Kuljit Singh.
"This initiative addresses growing concerns about rising healthcare costs and increasing insurance premiums," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Dec 11).
He added that participation in this important discussion is vital for a thorough analysis of the various factors impacting healthcare expenses.
These include high technology adoption, including digitisation, as well as the pricing of medical supplies, which significantly contribute to financial pressure on the sector, he added.
Dr Kuljit said APHM advocates for transparent dialogue among key stakeholders, including payors, Bank Negara, and the Ministry of Health, to develop effective solutions.
"The process must be grounded in comprehensive data rather than relying on isolated case studies that often overlook broader systematic issues,” said Dr Kuljit.
"One promising strategy is the implementation of Diagnosis-Related Groups, which necessitates a solid grasp of relevant data to evaluate its efficacy, emphasising that meaningful reform requires time,” he added.
Dr Kuljit said cutting-edge interventions like robotic surgery and personalised treatment plans are projected to add RM11bil to Malaysia's GDP.
"As we adapt to regulated cost structures, it is crucial to emphasise that a strong and innovative private healthcare sector is essential not just for economic growth, but also for ensuring high-quality healthcare for the Malaysian population," he added.
